The east side of the island is untouched by tourism and often attracts curious travellers who are watched by the locals with interest. East side of Lanta is overgrown with mangrove shrubs and at the south-east there is a village of the Sea Gypsies (called CHAO LEY) who are the indigenous people who preserve their old traditions and culture for more than thousand years. They are great fishmen who set out every evening on their traditional longtail boats to supply the island with fresh fish. Sword-fish, shark, groper, snapper, barracuda, tuna, shrimps, the famous Thai tiger shrimps, crayfish, mossels, cuttle-fish and many more delicacy do not miss on Thai georgous menu.
